I had a lovely time photographing S & D’s wedding at the beautiful The Cherry Barn. Although it was an October wedding, the day felt more like midsummer. After a week of almost constant rain, the couple were incredibly lucky with the weather — especially as they had planned an outdoor ceremony, which couldn’t have worked out more perfectly.
Despite the name, The Cherry Barn isn’t set on a cherry farm but on an apple farm, surrounded by orchards. The farm presses its own apple juice for local markets and also produces craft cider, adding to the venue’s relaxed, rural charm. The barn itself sits right next to the orchard, creating a wonderfully peaceful setting for a wedding day.
The Cherry Barn is a stunning, oak-framed barn with high timber ceilings and large glass windows that flood the space with natural light. From a photographer’s point of view, it’s a dream venue — bright, airy, and full of character.
While the bride got ready in the White Room, a private space tucked away at the back of the barn, the groom was outside welcoming guests as they arrived. Many arrived together on a vintage bus the couple had organised, although there’s also plenty of on-site parking available. Guests were greeted with drinks on arrival and enjoyed a relaxed stroll through the orchard while waiting for the ceremony to begin.
Following the ceremony, guests were treated to a delicious three-course meal, followed by heartfelt speeches. As the evening drew in and the light faded, the barn was transformed into a lively dance floor. It didn’t take long for guests to make their way onto the dance floor and over to the photo booth, while others opted for a more relaxed pace outside, gathering around the fire pit and toasting marshmallows under the autumn sky.
It was a beautifully laid-back and joyful celebration, and a perfect example of how special an autumn wedding can be.
